Dress Code for 2009-2010

Schedule

All dance students MUST wear proper dance attire.  Failure to wear required apparel may result in renting loaner items at a cost of $2.00 per item. Hair MUST be pulled up away from the face. Levels 4 and higher should have their hair up AND secured in a bun (not pony tail) for multiple turns. No large dangling jewelry:  earrings, necklaces, bracelets, or watches. No oversized shirts, boxers, pajamas, swimsuits, or street clothes.

Creative Ballet / Pre-Ballet / Ballet 1 / Ballet 1/2 Pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballet skirt, pink ballet slippers

Ballet 2 / Ballet 2/3 Purple leotard, pink tights, purple ballet skirt, pink ballet slippers

Ballet 3/4 / Ballet 4/ Pointe 4/Teen Ballet Royal blue leotard, pink tights, royal blue ballet skirt, pink ballet slippers

Ballet 5 Burgundy or black leotard, pink tights,burgundy/watercolor ballet skirt, pink ballet slippers

Jazz and Tap Wear the required color leotard for the matching ballet level with black jazz pants, tan convertible tights, bare feet for jazz levels 1-2, black jazz shoes for levels 3+, black tap shoes with black laces.  NO tap or jazz sneakers, NO bare stomachs

Musical Theatre & ODISSI Classical Indian dance Leotard, tights, black jazz pants, bare feet, NO bare stomachs

Flamenco Leotard, tights, flamenco skirt, black character shoes or flamenco shoes, castanets, black jazz pants for beginner level

Hip Hop Leotard, tights, baggy pants or sweat pants, knee pads, dance sneakers (not worn outside). NO jeans, NO bare stomachs Cabaret Hip Hop Leotard or tank top, crop pants (fitted but not trashy),jazz shoes or high heels

Belly Dance Leotard, dance bra, or fitted t-shirt, with trunks, harem pants, harem skirt, sweat pants/yoga pants, hip scarf and veil.  Zills will be used in intermediate levels. BARE STOMACHS ARE ALLOWED!

Boys and Men Black sweat pants or bicycle short, dance belt, fitted white or black t-shirt, knee pads, black jazz shoes or ballet slippers

To serve our customers even better, Derby Dance & Music Arts has a boutique complete with leotards, tights, pointe shoes and all other dance shoes necessary for proper dance training. This will save everyone time and money not having to drive around town. Now, dance classes, music classes, training books for music and dancewear are ALL AVAILABLE AT ONE CONVENIENT LOCATION!!  At the Derby Dance & Music Arts we offer handcrafted chiffon ballet skirts: starting at $10.00 and Flamenco skirts are available for dancers starting at $40 for any size.  Special fabrics and designs can also be completed at competitive prices.  We order fans, castenets, shoes and hats from Spain for our customers who want the very best. Special bellydance basics are available: hip belts, harem pants, veils and zills.  Special orders to make costumes can be arranged. Costume information is offered in our bellydance classes as well!  We also have a nice assortment of dance and costume items for Halloween and parties. Tights are always available in child and adult sizes: black, pink and nude in a variety of styles: full footed, stirrup and convertible.  Prices start at $10 per pair.
